I've just seen HTML-Kit (http://www.chami.com/html-kit/) recommended as a good free/cheap alternative to Dreamweaver. Don't get me wrong, DWMX2004 is a great bit of kit but it is getting to be a monster-sized application, and the info came from people responding to moans about it.

HTML-Kit was described as being free. From the blub on the site it looks as though the basic build is, but add ons and professional/business use require a purchase. But even then, it's only about $50.

Hmm, looks interesting. I don't think I'll be dropping DWMX2004 any time soon but for anyone on a budget, HTML-Kit does all the right things and some of the plug-ins do things that even DW can't do. I particularly like the ability to see your HTML structure graphically.

There are some great shareware applications out there. I started using Allaire HomeSite as a shareware application and liked it so much I bought it and used it for many years. In fact, I was only persuaded to move to Dreamweaver when Macromedia bought HomeSite and integrated it into Dreamweaver.
