OK, I was a bit slow on the uptake, but I finally "got" the joke in David's Forum sign-off. "10" is "2" in binary - very clever.

Francis, please can you explain "It was so pretty, and it took our mind off of domestic issues" - Bill Hicks. Taken out of context I just can't work out what he is referring to.

I'm not familiar with Bill Hicks, although the film "Human Traffic" contains a clip of him talking about his recreational drug use which is funny.

"It was so pretty..." is a line from Hicks' Relentless album. Most of the transcript (http://www.gavinsblog.com/rel.htm) is online but is Not Safe For Work. It refers to the first Gulf War - Hicks hated Bush senior and insinuated that the Gulf war was mearly a distraction to take people's minds away from his domestic policy - Hicks' "Persian Gulf Distraction" joke. Doesn't sound funny? It is.
