Which is another reason I don't buy computer mags. I've got into the habit of picking magazines up and giving them a discreet shake before they leave the vicinity of the shelf. I can get most, if not all, of the marketing garbage out without having to ferry it home.

Yes, one disadvantage of having it delivered to my home. Still, it gives the kids something to play with.

From AOL's standpoint the CDs are very cost-effective advertising. They bring in new subscribers and give AOL a vast revenue stream, albeit dwarfed by their historic debts. The offer which hurts AOL is the One Month Free Trial: not enough of the takers become subscribers.

The guys on the allotment that ajoins my garden tell me that they make good bird scarers (does such a wood exist?).

It had to happen - there's someone out there that collects AOL disks (http://staff.jccc.net/lcline/disks.htm). Wonder at the designs, gasp in awe of the owner's need for a life...
I also found NoMoreAOLCDs (http://www.nomoreaolcds.com/) - nice idea, shame about the design...
