Hello

I was wondering if the course is only running part-time from this September. I ask as on the front page of the course website it says you are now enrolling for the part-time course, but mentions nothing of full-time.

I also wanted to ask about the content of the course. I can tell that it is geared towards the design and usability side of things, and you also mention in the course description that it is not for those wanting to do programming. My question is what do your students use, do they stick to Dreamweaver and mark-up languages? Or is it simply that some programming is covered but not as extensively as on other Masters degrees of the same area? I'm really interested in what is covered on the course.

Many Thanks,
Chris

Hello,

I am a previous student; I graduated in 2005.

The course doesn't cover any programming. It does cover basic XHTML and CSS, but the onus is on the student to take this further themselves, with support from the excellent tutors. In my case, the course motivated me to improve my XHTML, CSS and PHP but you can pass the course with only basic awareness of these things.

The course is linked to the university's Architecture and Construction deparment and NOT its Computing department. If you're looking for a web programming course (PHP, ASP, Java etc) this is NOT the right course for you.

I would summarise the course as covering:

. website design
. introduction to markup language and cascading stylesheets
. usability
. accessibility
. testing
. internet marketing
. search engine optimisation
. content management
. "net art" - not sure if this is still in the course, but it examined the internet as an art medium
. culminates in a major research thesis project

When I was a student, I attended the campus for just a half day per week. Above this, I put in a lot of work in my free time. You get out what you put in.

It's a fantastic course, if these are the subjects you are interested in.

Hope this helps.

Hi Chris, the course is running in both part-time and full-time modes this year.
