"it is critical for web usability to retain this colour coding in your link colours" says Jacob Nielsen about those purple visited links.

Now, he's a wise man and all that, but I just think they look ugly; like little purple bruises all over a nice clean page. For me visual design has got to beat usability in this case, and who cares where you've been, it's where you're going that's important. right?

Using CSS doesn't limit you to the purple effect, which isn't pleasent. This week's AlistApart has an article on custom underlines (http://www.alistapart.com/articles/customunderlines/). Some are okay, but the animated one near the very bottom of the article is the one that's got me salivating. That, or something similar, might be quite good for the school project's kids pages.

Hey, that realy *is* "groovy baby". Nice idea for some areas of the School site.
