Just saw this article (http://www.jensense.com/) about the recent change (reduction) in clickable areas on AdSense ad units. I checked my site and it is indeed true. The idea is to reduce "accidental" clicks and provide advertisers with better quality referrals.
The article predicts a fall in CTR compared with the previous larger clickable areas but a quick check of my CTR indicates that there is no overall change as a result. I suspect that this may have something to do with the way ads are configured. On some sites, ads are specifically designed to attract accidental clicks by camouflaging them. My policy has always been to make them distinct but integrated and so visitors invariable know what they are clicking.
