Dear All

I have noticed recently a tendancy for anarchy on this board :o . I know you all have interesting stuff to say but please think which forum is most appropriate for your topic before starting it. Tom is the main culprit here but others (Francis) have also been a bit on the wild side. For example, Tom recently started two topics in this (News, Announcements and FAQ) forum: "Spider Food", should have been in the Searching the Web forum and "Seminars" should have been in the Content Management forum. Francis started a topic about Dreamweaver/FP in the Chat forum that clearly should have been in "Software" forum. There are other examples I could quote but you get the idea.

Now, I don't want to get heavy  but someone needs to keep order round here. Please think which forum is most appropriate for your subject before you start a topic. I know we now have great search facilities on this board but we must also keep some order. Be warned, I will start deducting pips for bad behaviour!

Fair point. You might want to move my "It's all PowerPoint's fault" from chat to software as well. Once moved, can the original thread be deleted, or is it stuck there forever?

Sorry David - but I still think there are a few too few Forums available.

I considered putting the Spider Food post under Browsers but judged that since what I had to say was a general point concerning the Forum the top category would be a better location.

Ditto for the post re seminars. If it had been a point about the subject itself I would have put it under Content Management. But since it was a general announcement about how to treat the subject I thought it should go under general announcements.

I can guess that you do not want to make any changes to the Forum for the forseeable future, after last week's effort. But if you ever make the split between public and private areas (recommended under Spider Food) it will give another layer of discipline to the discussions.

When moving a topic I have the option of leaving a "shadow" topic behind that links to the topic in its new location. This is convenient in the short term and avoids confusion. I can also, delete the shadow independently of the topic, so these will be removed in due course.

Tom, I feel that we probably have enough forums at the moment (if only they were used correctly <_< ) but you're free to suggest new ones if you wish.

The case for extra forums on this board is less compelling, especially since we can now use the Today's active topics link to display everything posted in the last 24 hours. Users are less likely to miss topics "buried" by others in the same forum.
