I'm patting myself on the back this week because Google has just promoted CADTutor to PageRank 6. I know James has been PR6 for a while now but I seemed to stall at PR5 and had been there for 3 years or more, despite continuing efforts in SEO and rising traffic.

I have no idea why the change has happened now but I guess the site must have just tripped through some threshold.

Anyway, just thought I'd share that with you - no one in the real world has the faintest idea what I'm talking about!

Nice one David. I never understood why you were stuck on 5 either.

Yesterday I coughed up $299 to (hopefully) get listed in Yahoo Directory. I am wondering if that will tip the balance into PR7?

Also, I am going to see if I can get some links from PR7 sites. Now I have a site that looks good, I feel I am more likely to be taken seriously, and can enter into "partnerships" rather than "link exchanges".

I hope your investment pays off. I've never been tempted but I would be very interested in any positive results you can attribute to this.

Did you ever have any luck with DMOZ? I made some update requests for my DMOZ entries almost a year ago and nothing has happened. I can't see why so much SEO weight is given to DMOZ when it is quite obviously out of date.

The Yahoo charge is recurring annually so if it makes no difference I will not bother again. But I'm hoping the fact that it is human-edited will look good in the eyes of Google. Also, Yahoo is still popular in the US so it might generate more traffic anyway. I will report back.

Since 2004 I have submitted the site once a year to DMOZ but have now given up. Surely Google knows it is more or less defunct?

Hrumph! Thanks Rob. So it wasn't me then - just a reshuffle. Still, I'm not complaining - PR6 is just fine thank you.

So let's see if it makes any difference to traffic and PR.
