What are the solutions for subdomain SSL Cetificates?

We are having our web application distributed across a number of subdomains on our hosting account. We want a single SSL certificate solution for our web application?

I would imagine that if the SSL certificate applies to your main domain, it will work with your sub-domains too - or am I missing something?
