How do I add an Image to a Post?

This is one of the most common FAQ’s on a forum like this. Actually it’s pretty easy.

Uploading the Image
Before you make your post, you must put the image you want to use online somewhere. Since you have some web space provided at websitearchitecture.co.uk, I suggest you use that. So, use your FTP software or browser to create a new folder within your personal area; call it something like “postimages”. Then, upload your image to this folder. You are now ready to start your post.

Making a post that includes an Image
Login to the forum and go to the topic you want to add a post to or start a new topic. Type your message as normal. Place your cursor where you want the image to appear and then click the IMG button http://www.websitearchitecture.co.uk/watson/postimages/b-img.gif. You will see the following string added to your message:

http://www.websitearchitecture.co.uk/watson/postimages/img01.gif

Edit this text and replace the “url” bit with the actual address of the image you just uploaded. It should now look something like this:

http://www.websitearchitecture.co.uk/watson/postimages/img02.gif

The image will display when the message is posted. Click the Send button, http://www.websitearchitecture.co.uk/watson/postimages/b-send.gif to post your message.

Guidelines on image and file sizes
The image above is 250 x 250px and is just 11KB. Posting large images or large files makes the forum difficult to read for users with low resolution monitors or with dial-up access to the internet. Therefore, the following maximum sizes must be observed:

Maximum image size 600 x 600px
You should rarely, if ever need to post anything this big. As you can see from the image above, smaller images are perfectly adequate for most purposes.

Maximum file size 50KB
Always optimise images before posting them. Again, in most cases your images should be much less than 50KB.

Images that exceed these limits will be removed.

Tip: You don't actually need to use the IMG button to add an image. You can simply type out the full BBCode and image URL within the body of your post. In some cases this may make positioning the image easier.
