I can't believe it but I've done it and its launched. My ladies have done an amazing job writing their first stories and (in places) its been so much fun.

Playing with Wordpress has been hell but I have found it really useful and learnt so much. It didn't help that I changed my theme pretty dramatically (Arthemia theme) to have 2 sidebars which are widget ready and also made pretty much every element I could my own.

But here it is!

Getting Lippy. Everything is real (yes I really have a newsletter). No forum as every single person I asked said they would interact in the comments, not in a chat room. But they did all want updates via a newsletter!

Whats great about the site is that, even at its worse, its a great memoir of the brilliant conversations I have had at the pub with my friends. At best, other people want to join in.

Congratulations... it feels good doesn't it? Although the hard work has just began!

Hello,

I think it is really good!

I thought I should let you know, the site layout breaks on very wide screens. I use a 1920 width monitor, and attach a screenshot of what I see. If I gradually widen my screen, it is OK, but once the screen gets to 1800 ish, the header drops down and content moves right.

Well done! Looks great. I can confirm the layout issue James has noticed. Perhaps all that's needed is a clear:both for the content immediately after the navbar? Failing that, a fixed width wrapper div.

It's a small issue as most people don't maximize their browser window (or is that just me) and you're not alone, I've seen the same thing happen at other sites.

I love what you've done with the colours but no need to be slavish about it. The purple on grey in the footer is a little low on contrast and you could easily deepen the purple (or lighten the grey) without compromising the effect. Worse is the yellow on white roll-over for links. Maybe try a background colour on rollover or an underline?

Notwithstanding the minor graphic tweaks, this is excellent and the content looks compelling (not for me, obviously) and the style is a perfect match.

All you've got to do now is keep it going :)

Thank you for your help!

Being poverty stricken (slightly dramatic) I dont have a big screen so didn't know of this error, its a very good point and I don't want to alienate those who do! I will see what adding a fixed width wrapper does (the theme didn't come with one - seriously this theme will be the death of me) as I can imagine that will do it. Can I update you when I have added it and you guys with a big screen can let me know?

You are right about the footer, the lighter grey sounds like a great plan! Will try a few variations and see what looks best.

I am really please with it and my authors are enjoying it too! I read the article you posted a while back about starting an online magazine and I have got a months worth of content to trickle out bit by bit and it means I can always be prepared!

Woohoo!

Fixed - top class!

Ooh, are you sure that black border round the footer is right?

I can see you're still tweaking so let us know when you need more comment.

woohoo! Glad my header is no longer wandering.

Still playing with the footer. Want it to be readable but subtle.

Will keep ploughing at it!

OH MY GOD I just got my first request for a recipricol link (is that how you spell it?). It was a personal email from a guy with his own comedy website! It doesn't look great, but he is having a revamp of his content so could be a good one to get in with!

I am going to ask him how he found my site.

I know I am sad, but how exciting!

Good work KA, you've started weaving the web. If you haven't already done so, you should start contacting owners of sites targeted at similar interest groups to your own and ask for a reciprocal link and don't be downhearted if you get few replies. Make sure you check the PageRank of any site you consider linking to. Ideally it should be higher than your own but at this stage, any bona fide link will do.

Thespoof.com is also linking to me, which is page rank 5 and is how my recipricol link found me!

I sent them a nice email to add me and it seems they did!
