Here are the browsers statistics for September 2010

Internet Explorer: 31.1%
Firefox: 45.1%
Chrome: 17.3%
Safari: 3.7%
Opera: 2.2%
(source: http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.asp)

Together, Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera, Safari and Chrome have released around 35 versions until today.
Firefox 3.6 is the 4th version released by Mozilla, for example. If you get Opera, from 1996 until today, there are ten different versions already released. And, of course, the 9th version of Internet Explorer is on its way (as Will and Tom were talking about in the previous post).
My question is: to work in a safe zone, knowing everything will work as it should for a great number of users, in how many versions of each browser you think a website should be tested?
