Galling though it is to see another good Mac product get ripped off for PCs, I have to admit that Google's recently acquired Picasa (http://www.picasa.com/google/?promo=hpp5)
is a pretty good clone of iPhoto.
"# Auto-transfer photos from your digital camera.
# Organize and find pictures in seconds.
# Edit, print, and share photos with ease.
# Create slideshows, order prints and more"
Doesn't let you burn slideshows to CD/DVD like iPhoto, or have your photos sent to you in a nice leather bound photo album. Also ordering prints doesn't appear to be available outstide the US - yet. Still, it does have that groovy timeline display.
what are google up to with this?...from http://www.clickz.com/news/article.php/3380451 (http://clikz)
"'You use us to search the Web and your e-mail, now you can use us to search your photos and share them with friends and family,'"
"This is another way to lock in the consumer. If you've just created your own personal space on the Web and built this area that's tied to you, it's difficult to make you shift. It's hard enough to shift your e-mail, but if you've built your own photo album online are you going to shift it? Not likely."
"in case you didn't realize ... Google wants to own consumer online relationships"
