What is an avatar?
It’s the small image that appears below your user name when you make a post. See the example below.

How do I add an Avatar to my User Profile?
The short answer to this question is that you can’t. The server on which this forum is hosted does not allow for file uploads via PHP and that’s the method this forum uses to get your avatar image file into the correct folder. However, an avatar image file can be uploaded manually to overcome this restriction. The only problem is that I will have to do it for you (which I am happy to do) because only I have full FTP access to the server.
Can’t I use the option on my Profile page to upload the Avatar?
Well you can try and if you do, you’ll even be rewarded by a message telling you that your image was successfully uploaded but actually it doesn’t work.
Image File Details
Your avatar image can be either a GIF or a JPEG. It can be no larger than 80 x 80px. Larger files will be automatically resized to this maximum and this causes a reduction in quality so best to keep it within the limits. Keep the avatar file size as small as possible. Large avatar files will slow the forum down and this is annoying for other users.
Getting it Online
When you have an image you’d like to use, email it to me as a file attachment and I will make sure it gets to the right place.
Tip: You can also control the text that appears between your user name and the avatar image. This is called the “User text” and you can add or modify it by using the option on your Profile page.
