This is a video article (http://mashable.com/2010/11/15/facebook-messages-video/) from November about Facebook's New Messaging system.
I remember feeling quite gob-smacked when I saw this video and how it will revolutionise the way we communicate.
Facebook has noticed a big gap in that we all use so many different forms of communication to communicate with people dependant on the form that they prefer, i.e. text, email, facebook etc. What they are proposing is an amalgamation of all these forms of communication into one seamless system.
The video doesn't explain the specifics of how it will work, but it's basically saying that all these forms of communication will be accessible in one place and will be centred around you and the person you are communicating with.
It also states in the article that they're currently rolling it out based on 'invite only', but I don't think it has been implemented fully yet..
