Elizabeth Castro has just released "Creating A Web Page with HTML" and it's had a glowing review from Zeldman (http://www.zeldman.com/daily/0804d.shtml#virgin). I can think of numerous people that could gain from this book, hopefully the reviews will stand up to the initial praise (Zeldman doesn't recommend many books, but when he does people seem to agree (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/073571410X/qid=1092848790/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl/026-3592463-6710058)).

I had a look at this book today (it was a bookshop kind of a day) and I have to say that I was impressed.

The content is very basic and intended for those who know nothing of HTML, digital graphics or web design in general. The book is basically a project and takes the reader step-by-step through the process of building a simple website. The thing that impressed me most is that although very basic, Elizabeth manages to do everything the "right" way, including CSS.

It's a full colour book and quite thin but very accessible. It's definately something I'd recommend to non-web designers who need to build their own site.

Interesting new thread on Mezzoblue (http://www.mezzoblue.com/archives/2004/08/25/standards_re/); people are being asked to recommend their favourite 'standards resources for beginners'. The usual ones such as W3Schools are in there, and some aren't strictly for beginners, but there's a good few sites there that good be of use. Hit the 'comments' link at the bottom of the article. The thread is still fairly new, so it'll probably be worth checking back on for the next week or so.
