This (http://www.htmlvalidator.com/lite/) looks quite good. Has anyone tried it? This lite version is free and claims to validate HTML, XHTML and CSS. There are also Standard and Pro versions but you get most of what you need in the free Lite version. It looks remarkably like the old HomeSite and I would guess that that is the model it is following. Certainly worth checking out:

That does look good - if it's as good as it claims, then it could it could save quite a bit of hair pulling. I like the fact that it spots typos (http://www.htmlvalidator.com/htmlval/whycseisbetter.html) in code as well.
I find the validator in Dreamweaver very flakey; it trips up on all kinds of things that it shouldn't. I tend to use either the W3C's one or the WDG HTML validator (http://www.htmlhelp.com/tools/validator/) which, if you use the Web Developer's Toolbar extension for Moz/FF allows, at the click of a button, validation of local HTML without visiting the site. Very handy.
