Another week, another Google search. This time it's Google Video (http://video.google.com/) which allows searching of recent TV transcripts. Type in a word and you'll get a listing back of programmes where the work has appeared, the American TV network it appeared on, when it was on and how far into the epidsode the word appeared. Oh, and a thumbnail. No idea how that lot's been put together, but it must take a huge amount of work.
As usual, there's Google filters for channels and they're also saying that it may be possible in the future to play video clips of the programme itself. Checkout the help page (http://video.google.com/video_help.html) for more.

I wonder whether Google or Yahoo (http://video.search.yahoo.com/) are me-too-ing on this.

Yes, it's all getting a bit competitive on the bells and whistles front, isn't it? And with MSN and, slowly but surely, A9 coming up on thew inside, Google really need to pull something out of the bag. A browser, perhaps?! (MSN, obviously, have one of these already, but it's crap!)

I can't see a good use for this. Great for the Americans looking for excerpts from Friends and other such nonsense though.

The help page says that it's only running on a couple of networks at the moment, one of which is Warner Bros, who do a load of stuff like Friends, Dawson's Creek and the like. Once it opens up to more and, heaven forbid isn't just US-centric, then it will be useful. For example, in last night's Corrie apparently there was mention of how commiting insurance fraud increases other members' premiums. The team next to be wanted the quotes from it to add to a presentation. Once Google/Yahoo video takes off and you can actually view the clip online and get the exact quote, then it will be useful for all kinds of things. Shame though, as I use the PC when I'm fed up of TV...
