Check this baby out! Another addition to Google Labs: Google Ride Finder (http://labs.google.com/ridefinder). This is a real time taxi locator for certain areas in the USA. By refreshing the display you can actually see the icons representing the cars move! Click on a car icon to get the phone number of the company to book the cab. People have been testing this and it is actually accurate (http://www.metafilter.com/mefi/40877#893784)

To play with it, select an area (eg Washington DC) on the right, zoom in a bit using the slider on the left of the map so you can see numerous vehicle icons (ust over 1/2 way up works well), give it 20/30 seconds or so and hit 'update vehicle locations'. Usually a few things move, sometimes loads do.

What's next, then?

Yet another Google toy that I can't see the point of.

What's wrong with picking up the phone and requesting a cab?

Google Labs seems to be about cool gadgets and toys, not killer content.
