Hi there

David / Terry / Stuart / Tom:

We got an email from Terry today saying the first session after Christmas will be on 21st January, however, Stuart's first assignment needs submitting on 7th January.

Stuart was keen that we hand in our work to the office, rather than on-line submission, so should we travel to Eltham just to hand in the work?

As James G, Francis and I come from Tunbridge Wells, and are in full time employment, I just wanted to clarify that point - Stuart can you respond?

Also, Terry implied that we were ALL invited to the commitee meeting at 2.30 on the 21st - I thought you needed one rep only - are we all invited now?

Good comments Terry about the lack of use of this forum, although David has tried to make this point in the past! I'm not convinced others are even picking up e-mails, let alone visiting the forum. Maybe this point needs making face to face when we next meet.

Personally I am spending a lot of time researching and reading the book list, and that's before I even think about the next assignment! This is an MA after all and I expected it, but others' lack of involvement is a bit disheartening. Hope you don't mind me making this point on the forum.

Hope everyone has a great Christmas, I will, in between all the reading!

I would have to agree with James' points above. We're up to about 250 posts on the forum, of which the vast majority are from the same people. Terry's request yesterday for acknowledgement of receipt of Tom's course outline (that has been sent out more than once) suggests that people aren't even bothering to respond to email!

This is all a bit bitchy and moany, but hey it's the antidote to all that Christmas "jollity" that's about... There are only six of us on the MA and, as James said above, it's somewhat disheartening to see such a lack of response.

I was thinking that it might be a bit overwhelming for people to come into the forum after a few weeks to see so many posts, but better to jump back in now than wait even longer. I don't want this to descend into an "us and them" situation, but I fear it might.

When I was setting the submission date for the first assignment, I was working to the standard academic schedule and completely forgot that you lot would not be around on the 7th January.

It looks like you should be able to submit electronically to Registry using the following URL:-

http://registry1.gre.ac.uk/coursework/cwes.asp

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to contact anyone in Registry to confirm this.

If you have problems submitting online to registry, you can submit it to me at

s.allan@gre.ac.uk

Hope this helps.

Stuart

Update from this morning's reply, students cannot submit courseworks electronically to Registry.

There are two options, either post the coursework to Registry recorded delivery, or e-mail to me. If you take the latter route, I will try to acknowledge each submission.

Have a good Christmas and "a guid New Year tae ane and a'"

All the very best,

Stuart

fair play to James and Francis. Good points, duly taken on board and accepted. For my part (as I can only speak for myself) I will make a more pronounced effort to be actively involved in contributing to forum discussions.

In my case, I've seen the forum as a secondary priority to actually getting to grips with software/coursework. Having said that, it's a poor (and ill though out) reason to then neglect a very useful resource.

James, to save you further disillusionment, I could advise you to continue concentrating on your own work and leaving others to theirs ;) but I know its only cos you want to encourage good relations between fellow classmates.... Isn't it? :P

Stephen - absolutely - I want to help and be helped and this is a great place to do it! Hope you had a good Christmas :)

"Being bitchy and moany" (to quote Francis) is not at all true! I never intended that! Just commenting that only half the group are posting regularly.

Problem with forums (and other electronic communication) is that misunderstandings can happen as words are taken out of the context intended by the author. Just wanted to clear that one up!

Stuart, just wanted to clarify the submission details if I could.

You've suggested that we can e-mail the logbook to you for the 7th January. Is it a 12 o'clock submission time as usual and do we need anything else sent with it. By this I mean that you'd mentioned the header page that's needed for a registry submission but like the others I can't get on to the site.

If you're submitting these on our behalf are we still going to need the header page?

Also, I assume that the logbook needs a contents page and that's it (apart from the reports of course) oh and the bobby report attached.

What file format is best for you, PDF, Word Doc?

Cheers
