Konfabulator: enabling really groovy widgets that sit on your desktop and do things like show you weather forecasts, news snippets, picture libraries, etc. etc. Developed first for OSX then later for XP - just in time to get ripped off by OSX Tiger's built inDashboard which does virtually the same thing. Now Yahoo have bought it (http://www.konfabulator.com/) and until they do anything with it, you can download it for free.
It will be interesting to see what Yahoo are going to do with it; integration with their growing portfolio of web services is a given. Yahoo 360 widgets, mail and news. What do you say to that, Google?
