This is interesting (well, I think so...). If you Google on "brand guidelines" (http://www.google.com/search?q=%22brand+guidelines%22&btnG=Search&hl=en&lr=&client=safari&rls=en) you get loads of results back showing the brand guidelines for loads of companies, organisations and products. You'd think that people would maybe want to hide these from search engines or password protect them (some do but I'm surprised that more don't). For those wishing to develop their sites further after this course finishes, there is some good stuff to be taken from these documents. I like the IEE one (PDF) (http://marketing.iee.org/library/pdfs/iee_brand_guidelines.pdf)

You may not think the IEE has a brand. We are not a burger restaurant, or a washing powder. We are a professional network for electrical engineers, why would we even want a brand? Well, it depends on how you define the word ’brand‘. Every organisation or product creates an impression in the mind of the audiences it interacts with. What do they say about it? How do they describe it? The impression that they have is what we term a brand.

Many of these documents show things like logo placement, colour palettes, spacing and more, and could probably a good source of help/inspiration at some point.
