If I display a Fasthosts banner (thus advertising them) I **might** get featured on their homepage in return.

Seems more in there favour and a lottery for me, but perhaps no harm in it?

Maybe get your page layout sorted first so you know where the ad is going? You've already for 2 large-ish banners, adding more advertising might start to make the page look more like some hideous Also, how many sites do they host and how many people do they offer this to? How often do they post sites on their front page.

The phrase "authoritative site" is intriguing. Google doesn't seem sure what it is (http://www.google.com/search?q=%22authoritative+site%22+seo&hl=en&lr=&c2coff=1&client=safari&rls=en&start=10&sa=N). Tom? David?

Well, in theory it can't hurt and MAY be of some benefit. Francis is right about page layout - that's #1 priority for your site right now. I'm not sure what Fasthosts motive is in this scheme, they are doing pretty well without site badges - just more exposure I guess. If you get listed it will be easy to monitor any benefits by looking at your referrals but Francis is right, they currently host over a million domains, what are the chances...?

On closer inspection, they are not featuring sites on their homepage, it's on their "user feedback" page, which is difficult to find and is 2 clicks deep.
