How I love thee Metafilter (http://www.metafilter.com/) and (mostly) all your posts and self-moderationerational snarking.
Metafilter is a community weblog - you can join up for the princely sum of $5 and post links to good/interesting content (but not your own site, otherwise it's instant banning). If you don't want to join, then you can still read everything, but not post content. There are three main sections:
1: Metafilter (http://www.metafilter.com/) (aka "The Blue")
2: Ask Metafiler (http://ask.metafilter.com/) (aka "The Green")
3: MetaTalk (http://metatalk.metafilter.com/) (aka "The Grey")
In the past few months, Music (http://music.metafilter.com/) (for members to publish their own music) and Jobs (http://jobs.metafilter.com/) have been launched.
MeFi has, currently, 43,150 members, although not all post to the site. There are notable members (for numerous reasons), good posts, bad posts and all manner of bitching - mainly because of a: politics and b: because so many people obviously have differing opionions of what's good and bad. MetaTalk is where things get sorted out and a good place to see how things work. AskMe is rammed full of all kinds of questions, some amazing, from users, and a really good place to get help on pretty-much anything.
If you get really into the site, then there are meetups where members who live nearby (in *gosh*, the real world) meet up for a few drinks. Some have even got married.
