Default What HTML Editor do you use?

I'd like to get some idea what software people are using to make web pages. Currently, I recommend the use of Notepad++ and Filezilla as a free and light toolkit. However, this is too PC-centric and I'd like to move to another free/open sourse option that works well for those on PC and Mac. The most obvious would be Aptana Studio. I think Kerry-Anne is using this - any good/bad points would be useful.

The reason I'm keen to do this is that next year I'd like to do some "hands-on" in the first session to get everyone up-and-running as soon as possible and to support this with some video tutorials.

I know some of you will be using Dreamweaver and will want to stick with that but any information on free alternatives would be very useful.
Perhaps late-night surfing is not such a waste of time after all: it is just the Web dreaming. Tim Berners-Lee

I was using Aptana which is a very straight forward and easy to use programme. I have since treated myself to Dreamweaver and the only real advantage I see is that you can have 'code and design' split screens which you can't with Aptana.

But in terms of putting in code you can easily preview in a browser from Aptana and it works great!

As a Mac owner, I use BBEdit for markup. It is great for checking if code is valid and creating an accurate header for the version of HTML you want. However, for the price, I am not sure if it is a great advance on TextEdit, which is free and is bundled with OSX on a Mac. Nevertheless, I do find BBEdit convenient.

For inserting video, I can't do it without Dreamweaver. I had a real problem with this a while back and found the process on Dreamweaver laughably easy and so was seduced over to the dark side on that.

Also, I can't imagine web design without Photoshop. There is a good Mac version of Filezilla, so I use that for FTP. The browsers I use regularly are Camino, Safari and Firefox.

    Hey David,

I'm a Dreamweaver man. And I actually do think it gets a lot of stick for having a graphical interface. I'm not sure about anyone else but I actually don't use the design view at all... and all my adjustments are made in code and not using a mouse pointer. The only thing I do use (as a cheat) is inserting flash video... as its soooo easy...
