Further to the previous post, Google are on the job of building an application to simplify the creation of apps http://tech.fortune.cnn.com/2010/07/...app-explosion/ and I entirely agree with Seth Weintraub that 'It seems then that Android is likely to catch Apple pretty quickly in the "great for marketing, nonsense for practicality" apps numbers race. Google is currently closing in on 100,000 apps in the Marketplace. Apple's iOS App Store is closer to 250,000. Those numbers are all but meaningless because 90+% of apps on both platforms are complete trash.'
Content creators and content managers need to start thinking about how their sweat and blood will transfer from an HTML environment to an APPS environment.

App Inventor was part of Google Labs, which is now shut down. Looks like App Inventor is now run by a Google funded project at MIT: http://mitmobilelearning.org/

Google's approach to product development reminds me of the way they used to produce new crop varieties before the days of genetic engineering. They used to put a radio-isotope, to stimulate mutations, in the middle of a field and they wait to see if anything happened. As David says, they have lost interest in the App Inventor. It may flourish at MIT.
